Absalon
11 February 2012 - 13 May 2012
For three months Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s large Bodon Gallery is staging a one-man show of works by the French-Israeli artist Absalon (1964 - 1993), an artist who died young and whose impressive oeuvre is greatly appreciated by connoisseurs, but is unfamiliar to the general public. His work consists of white, architectural, geometric structures and models, some films and drawings that reflect his rage and his yearning for security and safety. The museum shows a selection of his work. Absalon said, ‘Unlike an artist or a designer my thinking is free of any form of constraint.’ The exhibition is a transfer from the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, the first institution to stage a major retrospective of Absalon’s work since 1994.

Solo Exhibition Angela Bulloch
21 January 2012 - 8 April 2012
Angela Bulloch is a Berlin-based sculptor, installation and sound artist. Her artistic practice is one that expresses the nature of experience as informing perception, it questions our place and that of others within space and culture. Her work is reminiscent of both minimal and conceptual traditions of art, and refers to literature, 20th century film production and 21st century digital media development.
The exhibition at Witte de With focuses on Bulloch’s latest works and features specifically commissioned pieces, which bring forth the new developments in her work. It presents the artist’s practice as one that explores notions of artistic production in a referential manner.

Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin have worked, since their student days at the Rhode Island School of Design, on a common practice without aiming for an established result. Their joint work is characterized by a multitude of visual images. The designs are not to be classified in any specific category. A sculpture can also be a film set, a gadget, a relic or a decoration. A film is a film, but also a social network and a platform for other works of art. This fundamentally open attitude towards collaboration is one of the most important principles of their practice. They have previously exhibited at among others MoMA PS1, New York and recently at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.

26 January 2012 - 18 March 2012
SPECIAL EVENING OPENING:
SATURDAY 11 FEBRUARY: 7PM - 10PM
TENT presents the first major solo exhibition by Han Hoogerbrugge. For nearly fifteen years, Hoogerbrugge has been drawing his alter ego, a loner in a black suit who observes the world around him with (black) humour. In 2011 his animation Quatrosopus was shown in the Danish pavilion at the Venice Biennale. In the autumn of the same year the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam acquired the animation game FLX. Hoogerbrugge publishes a daily comic on his website Pro Stress. Hoogerbrugge’s drawings and animations can frequently be seen at festivals, pop concerts, in newspapers and magazines. Hoogerbrugge has developed into a prominent example of a contemporary cross-media artistic practice, in which the borders between the real and virtual, between dream and nightmare, between high and low art, do not exist.

In Springtime we see a full frontal shot of Eisinga sitting at a table, motionless, in front of a wall covered with bees. In a slowly growing swarm the bees cover the artist’s bare upper body, his shaved head and, finally, his face. Body and bees seem to become one, pulsating organism. Not only does the ritual make the public shiver, it even evokes a literally breath-taking effect with the viewer.
