Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen presents a new installation of artist Carsten Höller (1961, Brussel). In Divided Divided Höller is creating an installation in the museum covering fifteen hundred square metres, exploring and giving shape to various elements in his oeuvre. He will present a new series of divided fly agarics (Triple Giant Mushrooms), video projections of overlapping flickering images (Flicker Films), a birdcage mobile (Singing Canaries Mobile) and a swinging space (Swinging Curve). The plan of the installation in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is based on a simple mathematical formula to which all the works inside the installation conform. Act II: From Love to Legal reveals the different forms that the gray area that we inhabit between images and power may take. Exploring references to biographical, anecdotal, personal and factual histories, with Act II we want to suggest a cyclical trajectory that originates in private life, in a space and a time in which, in Barthes’ words, one “is not an image, an object”. Does this mean that there is a space and a time in which we are able to remain outside the spaces of power, truth, and morality? From Love to Legal brings together a selection of contemporary artworks that confront such oppositions between anecdotal and factual, personal and historical, making it problematic for us to separate desire from even the most ascetic relationship to the world. Featured artists: Isa Genzken, Joachim Koester, Christodoulos Panayiotou, Isabelle Pauwels, Tobias Rehberger, Nedko Solakov, Danh Vo, Peter Wächtler and Katarina Zdjelar. From Thursday December 3, 2009 - Sunday February 7, 2010 TENT. presents a largescale solo exhibition of emerging Rotterdam artist Katarina Zdjelar Parapoetics is the first comprehensive presentation of Zdjelar.The exhibition concentrates on recent work, presenting a group of her videofilms of the last four years, alongside with a series of live events. Katarina Zdjelar invites guests such as the performer/ writer Caroline Bergvall (London), sociologist Willem Schinkel (Rotterdam) and philosopher Mladen Dolar (Ljubljana), who has written extensively on the essence of the voice. A Parapoetics reader will be released at the end of the exhibition. In Zdjelar’s video works, the mispronunciation, reformulation or forgetting of language, challenges fixed opinions on the relationship between language and culture. Due to maintenance of its depots, over 12,000 art objects from the museum cross over, through the Museum Park, to the daylight hall of the Kunsthal. The collection of art objects ranges from old masters to ceramic and from silver to contemporary art. These works characterize the wealth and variation of the numerous treasures the museum has to offer. Many of the objects have not been displayed for quite some time. The Kunsthal offers visitors the opportunity to discover which are their personal favourites at this dynamic and interactive exhibition.
